Experience with VR Headset

Experience with VR Headsets

There are three kinds of VR headsets
  • Mobile-you need a smartphone to connect to
  • Tethered-you need a PC to connect to
  • Standalone-you only need a place to charge it
Mobile headsets only have three degrees of freedom (3DOF). Tethered and Standalone have six degrees of freedom (6DOF).
The 3DOF does not give the full effect of being in the game or place that you see with the headset.

Many companies make VR sets: Oculus, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo.

I have the Oculus Quest. It has 6DOF. It has hand controls and is a standalone.

Comparing the VR to the Xbox One:

  •  the headset has better graphics and seems more real than the Xbox.
  • the xbox is easier to control because I don't have to move but moving with the headset seems more real.
  • the headset and controls you need a little more space but not too much.
  • the xbox has more games available.
  • Xbox you can play with more people being online.
  • Oculus would be fun to play with more people
  • Oculus is still pretty new so it doesn't offer as much as the xbox.

  1. There is some information here. For someone who doesn't use VR, what are the arguments for why I should?
